Hyundai Galloper

2.5L TD Intercooler,  Jan '99, 73kW(99ps), Manual, ABS, 4WD

This is a page dedicated to my current vehicle of choice, the Hyundai Galloper.

The Story

Finding information on the Hyundai Galloper in English on the internet proved to be an absolute nightmare, so I thought I'd provide some myself.

From what I have learned Mitsubishi were happily making and selling their Pajeros (and Shoguns and Monteros). Anyway, more and more features were being added and the vehicle was becoming more and more expensive and fussy. Mitsubishi decided to sell the basic manufacturing line for the Galloper to Hyundai in Korea. This fact seems to be omitted from the Mitsubishi website. The Koreans then churned out thousands of these which have been sold in Western Africa, Russia, France and Germany. I'm sure they exist in plenty of other countries, but these seem to be the main ones. Mitsubishi were still producing their Pajero but from 1991 it had a new body style. Seeing how well the older vehicle was selling for the Koreans, somehow regained control of the production lines and produced the Mitsubishi Galloper which became the Mitsubishi Pajero Classic. As far as I can see, the Hyundai Galloper was produced only between 1998 and 2001.

Here's a few photos from a model Galloper that my dad sent to me. It came via eBay from a bloke in Singapore. Isn't the internet great?

You may notice certain differences between this model Galloper and the photos of my Galloper above. We're putting that down to artistic license. Oh, and the best bit is if you pull it backwards a little it shoots off across the floor. Yippee!!

Note: The rotating wheel above is the spare wheel on the back of my Galloper. Those gifs and the one with the models headlights flashing were created using Animation Shop 3 from JASC.

Here's a link to a very good forum (in German) where I found a lot of advice and help before I bought my Galloper :- www.4x4travel.org
