Travelling Getting to Munich
Getting around in Munich Important to note is that the nearest S-Bahn station to the Oktoberfest is Hackerbrücke. In order of closeness, the nearest u-bahn stations are Theresienwiese (It's actually on the grounds), Schwanthalerhöhe and Implerstraße. Click here for a direct link to all the MVV maps that you may need. You'll find lots of taxis at every entrance point of the Wiesn too. Actually you'll pretty much find them at every junction in town. Remember, ALL taxis are cream in colour, have a meter and a license number on display. If they do not then it is not a taxi and you will most likely be ripped off. Quite a few taxi drivers I've spoken to tell me that they go on holiday during the Oktoberfest period. I guess they don't fancy ferrying drunk tourists around all day. Others love the period as there's absolutely loads of business and they can make killing, so long as you don't mind running the risk of having to mop out your car each day. If you ring a taxi you can call the central controlling office from a mobile on 089-21610 or 089-19410. From a landline just omit the 089. These guys are a central point of contact for all the taxi firms in Munich and will be able to sort you out fairly quickly. (Note to Dublin people. Taxi waiting times on the weekend can be as much as 10 minutes!)
